SJCC mental health assessment and holistic wellness sessions for students

The orientation was aimed at helping students of SJCC understand the student support services in college that are designed for their holistic development. Along with academic excellence, the Jesuit values of accompaniment for student formation and social concern are emphasized in all the college endeavors. The full day session included orientations on the initiatives planned related to social issues, outreach programme, mental health and holistic accompaniment for overall personality development of students. Students were given a self-assessment to help them understand areas of concern or areas they would like to work on. The Samagra team developed these questions keeping in mind the common issues faced by students, and in consultation with mentors and counselors. This will serve as a way for students’ to have better self-awareness and as a starting point to seek help when they meet mentors/ counselors. The session also involved a very interactive Q & A session where relevant questions regarding health – general and mental health were addressed. This was the first time Samagra met all students of the college in various batches of 200-300 students at a time. All the UG students were addressed on August 2nd, 4th and 6th. The PG students were addressed on 11th and 17th august 2022. The response from students were encouraging, especially during the question answer interaction, many came forward to discuss their views on health and also to present their views on how to tackle the issue of stigma related to mental health.
